The Cotswolds, England ..Put this on your Bucket List of places to visit before you die

Picture
I thought I would share with you one of my favorite places in England ..it's so breathtaking and I am lucky enough to have visited it several times in the past a must for your Bucket List
Welcome to the Cotswolds, a very special, very wonderful place.

The Cotswolds covers a huge area – almost 800 square miles – and runs through five counties (Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Wiltshire and Worcestershire). One of the delights of the Cotswolds is exploring the different areas, each with its own identity, yet all with those defining Cotswold features: golden stone and rolling hills, the ‘wolds’.
Explore quintessentially English villages of honey-coloured stone; take in splendid, lively market towns; visit some of the country’s greatest palaces, castles and country houses; marvel at the natural world in acclaimed reserves and at some of the most famous arboretas in Britain

The Cotswolds is also richly rural: more than 3,000 miles of footpaths and bridleways to explore; ancient woodlands and wildflower meadows; 4,000 miles of historic Cotswold stone walls dividing up the landscape.

In England, mute swans are royal swans by default. Swans were considered royal fowl, but by the beginning of the 15th century, wealthy people could buy the right to own, sell, and eat them.
Does the Queen own all the swans in Britain?

Historically, monarchs wanted to keep exclusive rights to hunt swans to stop ordinary people from eating them all.
Henry III was said to be fond of a roast swan - he ordered 40 for Christmas in 1247 - and it would not do to let any peasant snatch one from the river so his family could dine like a king.

In the 15th century the crown granted the ownership of swans to landowners, with all others belonging to the sovereign.

Today swans are protected by law from being harmed, and the royal family have stopped eating them at banquets.
But historic laws are still in force.

I hope this has wet your appetite  to plan to go on a special trip this year

Danny and I are not travelling this year as far as we know

But we should be meeting our Son's that live in Guernsey in the UK in a few months in North Carolina, US where we have rented a large Log Cabin on 5 acres of it's own land ..deep in Bear country ...We are looking so forward to it ..just hoping and praying that the Coronavirus does not make us change our plans

Keep well and wash your hands over and over again

Happy Days
