Now it's time to hit the road for our nearly two hour trip through the French Countryside to Bayoux
Picture
Danny spied this tiny car for one in front of us on our journey ...so cute ..it's size would be great for Guernsey roads but it seems to have no windows ...as it rains so much in France ..seems a little impractable though I would love to have a go at driving it...wouldn't you ??

Coming up to Bayeux Cathedral

To my delight ...there was a street market ...I will blog about it another day ..as it was very nice ..very french !!

The back of the church was badly damaged in WW II as you can see and they never did repair it with the same architecture as a reminder to all that see it of the damage it received

The churches in Europe were built so high so that when you looked upwards you were looking towards Heaven
Picture
I could go on and on with photo's of the church ..it was so beautiful but I won't
Picture
I can't show you the actual Bayeux Tapestry as photography was not allowed but in one of the Bayeux churches there was an almost complete replica that was being embroidered by a man and I am guessing that there was a team of people sewing it and here are some photo's of it ..isn't it beautiful

The Bayeux tapestry is one of the supreme achievements of the Norman Romanesque ... Its survival almost intact over nine centuries is little short of miraculous ... Its exceptional length, the harmony and freshness of its colors, its exquisite workmanship, and the genius of its guiding spirit combine to make it endlessly fascinating.

The tapestry consists of some fifty scenes with Latin tituli, embroidered on linen with coloured woollen yarns. It is likely that it was commissioned by Bishop Odo, William's half-brother, and made in England—not Bayeux—in the 1070s. In 1729 the hanging was rediscovered by scholars at a time when it was being displayed annually in Bayeux Cathedral. The tapestry is now exhibited at the Musée de la Tapisserie de Bayeux in Bayeux, Normandy, France

The designs on the Bayeux Tapestry are embroidered rather than woven, so that it is not technically a tapestry... Nevertheless, it is always referred to as such.

I found these two photos of the actual tapestry and the room it is shown in ...each piece tells a story of the battle ...very interesting ..although I wasn't sure I would like it ..I really did ..very pleased I have seen it ..if you ever have the chance go and see it ..you won't regret it ....it's awe inspiring

Thanks for popping by

See you soon
