Some of the Wild Animals I have been privileged to see

Picture
Over the years I have been very privileged to see so many Wild Animals in nature on our various walks, hikes etc ..and even in our own garden there are plenty of different species to see.
I thought I would share some of my favorite ones that I captured on camera.
We were in the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina whilst sitting on a log in the middle of the forest as you do.
Keeping very, very quiet a Mama Black Bear moseyed on by with her two baby cubs.
They played for quite a while and for the finale Mama bear got up and has a good ole scratch on a tree trunk.
One of those magical moments I keep collecting in my memory.
So thankful.

If you have followed my blog for a while you will know who these cheeky chappies are ..that visit me throughout the day ...this year unfortunately we have not seen any new babies ..that is the first time in 19 years !!!
Picture
This was last year when Daisy was obviously feeding and was asking for some lunch to feed her babies.
Picture
All are welcome at our front porch to eat from our feed bowls ...this day a gorgeous misunderstood Opossum came to see what was on the menu.

In West Virginia on the famous Blue Ridge Parkway we saw many deer and the most gorgeous Spring scenery.

We were lucky enough to spot this White Tailed Deer ..it was not at all anxious about us being there.
There must have been a very tasty morsel on the old front porch.

Picture
Picture
This Male Turkey was running down the hill towards us ...may be to "Gobble' us up do you think ???
Picture
Perhaps he wanted to visit with this scrawny female Turkey ..we will never know.
Picture
We happened one day to glimpse this beautiful Blue Bird ....obviously with a tasty morsel to feed it's babies.
Picture
Picture
This beautiful Large Flying Sexton Beetle ..do you know that two of the beetles are often seen burying small mammals like mice etc...to feed on later ..this one seems to have a taste for eating a piece of these Omphalotus illudens commonly known as the  Jack O'Lantern Mushroom
Picture
Picture
This innocent looking 'Army Worm' can cause havoc ...it grows inside a large web like nest on trees and will in the end kill the tree ....they can devastate areas ...Below you will see three further photo's of them on the trees ..they are sort of creepy don't you think ??

Under the eaves's of an old abandoned house a Hornet's nest can be easily seen.
Picture
I wonder why something so beautiful can be called 'Dragon' Fly !!!   Apparently the origin of their name is a bit of mystery. The origin is not definitive, but there are many wonderful folklore stories to explain the origin of the name.
Picture
It was a lucky day when this Western Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly decided to have a rest on the 'colander' that I planted my Million Bell flowers in ..they visit our garden often but it's rare to be able to photograph one so closely.
Picture
Picture
On the Blue Ridge in the early morning we woke up to this wonderful show of nature ...all of the trees were frosted ...it was a glorious sight ..they soon became unfrosted when the Sun came up.
Picture
Picture
One of my Buddies down in the swamps of the Gulf of Mexico ...we see many Alligators but this chappie wanted to pose for me ..he was about 10 feet long  !!
Picture
A smaller one enjoying the heat of the day.
Picture
Picture
One Winter's day I heard a commotion outside and found the excited chirping of hundreds of Red Winged Blackbirds on their migration ..dropping in to Maisonvogue for a top up of food ..they stayed around most of the day .. also many of them were
 in our neighbors gardens.
Picture
Picture
Because of our Wild Flower garden etc...we had a large amount of wasps and bees on the flowers ...the constant buzz of the bees ...this Bumble Bee I caught being a very busy bee filling itself with as much pollen as possible.
Picture
Picture
One day we were just driving along and came across a large Sounder of Wild Boar ...there were about 12 of them ...this one wanted his photo taken ...so I didn't argue and just took it !!
Picture
Picture
I am very lucky to have seen so many more animals in the Wild than these ....it's something that I keep deep in my Soul ...to see a Wild Animal in it's natural surroundings is such a privilege to be able to share even just a fleeting glance of it's day with it ...makes me very happy
I hope you enjoy looking at the photo's I have taken and the small tidbits of my knowledge about them

Happy Days

Pottery updates and Daisy the Raccoon say's 'Hello'

Picture
Danny took a photo of me holding my large white bowl ..it's an order for a customer for her beach house...
She wanted it completely plain ..with no decoration .
Difficult for me to do ..as I love very detailed work ...but I hope that she is happy with it ..I put a lot of love in to it.
Picture

Picture
Daisy the Raccoon wanted to come and see what we were doing on the back deck ...she loves to spend the afternoons sleeping on the deck in the heat of the day

It's a large bowl ...a little taller and larger than the star fish bowl I made for myself ...
Can you see the flecks in the glaze
I love that like grains of sand ...perfect for her Beach house
The flecks are in the clay not in the glaze ..
I always use clay with flecks in as it adds that little extra to every piece.
The glaze I used was Mayco's Snow ...it took a whole pint of glaze !!!

Picture
I have had two wooden plaques with our house number on either side of the mailbox for 19 years  ...I paint them every year ..I went to take them off to paint then decided I would make my own pottery ones ...so I have made two of these ...I think they will be so cute ..I can't wait to glaze them ...they are in the kiln as I write this and I should be able to glaze them in the next week.

Before I start to make some Christmas items I wanted to make at least two items for the Autumn season ..to put in our lounge/living room ....I love acorns the way they look and feel so I hand moulded some
I think it will be super cute ..great fun to glaze as well...can't wait ..this is also in the kiln at the moment.

I have put an acorn in the inside of the bowl as well..

A new friend joined our Wednesday group ..she has been going to the Friday group for quite a while ..
She wanted to make a large bowl like mine but with a traditional top to the bowl and put inside a Humming Bird with Hibiscus Flower ....instead of a Star Fish
I think it looks incredible Cathy ..well done
Welcome to our lovely Wednesday group.

A sign of Summer starting to close is that my lovely Lime Light Hydrangeas turn from a glorious cream color to this gorgeous lime green ...later on as the flower is dying it will turn a mixture of pinks of green ..
This bush never fails me
It is our pottery teacher's birthday on Monday and as part of her gift
I have given her a Lime Light Hydrangea bush ..so that she too can enjoy her own bush every Summer day

Happy Days to you all

Thanks for popping in

Kindest Regards

New Cute Addition to Maisonvogue's Raccoon Community

Picture
I had a lovely surprise yesterday afternoon when one of our Resident Raccoons 'Daisy' bought her new baby to eat at our feeding bowls
Picture
I first saw them through the living room window ...there was this sweet super cute baby raccoon with it's Mum ...whom we named 'Daisy' several years ago ...she actually will come out of the woods if I call her by name
Picture
Daisy seems to have just the one baby this year ..last year she had 3 babies and the year before that she had 4 ...I am guessing she is just getting too old to produce many more
Picture
Not a traditional bird feeder but this colander is raccoon proof ..very important in our garden ...it is really for the birds and has black oiled sunflower seeds in it ..but whenever the raccoons can get some out of the feeders they do .
Here the baby has quickly learnt ...it was about 11.30am when Daisy and baby came to feed ..they are nocturnal so shouldn't be out at this time but I guessed that Daisy had a baby or two as she has been coming out near midday to feed for several weeks now ..she always does when she is feeding her babies ..I guess to get some food before all the other raccoons come to raid the feeders and eat the dry cat food I give them after dark ...

Picture
I decided to name the baby , no idea if it's a boy or girl , 'Blossom' ..Daisy was telling Blossom that it was time to go
Picture
So off Daisy and Blossom toddled ..they went towards a big terra-cotta drainage pipe where I have seen Daisy go before ...I can't think that she is living in it as the rain water gushes down through it when we have a storm and we have had storms daily for a few weeks now
Perhaps it's just where they go to hide on their way to their Den in our woods

Picture
Thanks for letting me share with you
My excitement at seeing another addition
To our Maisonvogue Raccoon family

Happy days

Janet
