My greatest Pottery achievement so far

This is my greatest Pottery achievement so far ....I so wanted to make this 13"  pitcher/jug ..
I hand built it ...it took me 7 hours to make ...with just a 15 minute break for lunch
So much work but so worth it

Picture
I am so happy with the glazing choices I made
For my pottery friends
I used Mayco's Blue Surf
Amaco's Textured Amber
Amaco's Seaweed
Inside
Amaco's Deep Olive Speckle
Amaco's Iron Lustre around the inside rim

I am so proud of the shape ...it looks pregnant so I am calling it 'Birtha' ..ha! ha!
It took hours to work the clay with my hands to achieve this big tummy
I need to take better photo's of this ..
I can't wait to put some beautiful flowers in it

It now has pride of place in my pottery curio cabinet
My favorite pottery pieces get a place in this cabinet

Our 2019 Thanks Giving Meal
Picture
Well here is our Thanksgiving meal ....Not traditional at all ....but so yummy
This was my plate ..I ate everything except for a 1/3rd of the steak
Ha! Ha! ...I will blog about anything

Picture
Just a very simply laid table ...being only Danny and I
Picture
Picture
Danny cooked the steaks on the grill/BBQ ...they were one of the most delicious steaks we have ever eaten
Picture
Gulf Shrimp so wonderful ..I cooked them in a mixture of olive oil and just a little butter ....so yummy ...they look like little bugs and I love them so I call them 'love bugs' ..ha! ha!
Picture
Brussel Sprouts are always a hit with us ...I did add crispy bacon as it was a special occasion ...just yummy ...and good for you .
We eat them every week

Picture
I could not resist using my Lenox 'Winter Greetings' Cardinal plates
I know they are Christmasy but I don't need an excuse to use them
We had a small glass of Prosecco
We don't drink really other than special occasions ...
I only managed half of the glass ..but it was good

So that is our Thanksgiving gone

Now to get ready for Christmas

I hope that you had  a great Thanksgiving too

NO Black Friday for us
I did it once and will never do it again ..Ha!  Ha!

For those that are going ..good luck
I hope that you get lots of bargains
Don't put yourself in debt

Happy Days

Happy Thanks Giving to you all

Picture
It's Thanks Giving Day today  ...the first day of the Holiday Season
Danny and I are alone on this day but we love each other's company
And will be having a special day together to give Thanks for all of our Blessings

We have had a hard year this year ...With the passing of my Darling Sister Sue
Who left us so suddenly on July 18th ...just 10 days after her 68th Birthday
Grieving for her has been hard
I am at the stage that I don't talk about it anymore and keep my grief just below the surface
It's my way of grieving ...it's ok ..I hold on tightly to all of the happy memories and special times we had together.
The hardest thing is knowing that with Mum and Dad also gone at such early ages ..Dad 62 and Mum 69 I am the last of my child hood family ...I alone hold all of the memories in my mind and heart ...
No one to ask if my memory is correct ..my Dear Friend Heather gave me a lovely book and pen to write all of my memories down ..that helps a lot
Then we have had several health scares ...worrying about my our Nephew's health but he is now on the mend and the future looks good

Picture
A pumpkin I made at pottery ...I usually buy a real blue pumpkin but this year I made a forever one .
Picture
Danny and I will be eating a special meal today
With the table laid so prettily ...complete with some of my pottery Autumn leaves and the Pumpkin

Picture
Here is a recipe for the Scalloped Potatoes I have made for our Thanks Giving Meal
It's a much loved recipe ( I add chopped bacon to the recipe too )
What I also love about it is you can get it ready for the oven the day before and just cover it with cling wrap to put in the refrigerator
It's a bit naughty but so yummy for that special meal
Picture

I can't cook like I used to and we are tired of Turkey
So we will be having a very nice Filet Mignon Steak each with a heap of Gulf of Mexico Jumbo Shrimp
Along with sautéd Portabello Mushrooms and Brussel sprouts with bacon
Once finished we have two lovely pieces of cheese cake
I purchased from Whole Foods bakery ..yum !!

Picture
Some of the cute Santa Gnomes I have made for Christmas this year ...I love them ..each one has it's own personality

This is how I like to cook my

Brussel Sprouts

I put some chopped up bacon pieces in a skillet and just a sprinkle of olive oil
I cook till crispy then remove from the pan

I then put my Brussel Sprouts in the pan cut side down (I cut my sprouts in half)
And let them brown turning the over to get some color adding some freshly ground pepper and just a little salt to taste

Once that is done add Chicken Stock /Broth to the pan and bring to the boil ..just enough to nearly cover the sprouts ...

Once boiling turn the heat down to a gentle simmer and cover the pan

Cook for 25 mins ..toss with the cooked bacon for a few seconds then remove from pan and place in a pretty bowl

Happy Thanksgiving to you all
Be kind to each other
