I hope you have found yourselves a treasure you couldn't live without
Well you never know what the day is going to bring and today I went up to the sleepy little country village of Woodstock, Alabama to get a few groceries I had forgotten whilst doing my weekly shop ...I had seen off in the corner of this little strip mall of just a few shops a place called 'The Shoppee' and outside sometimes there were some interesting items but I had not ever wandered in through it's doors before ..and I am so glad that I did because I came across these funny little creatures and had to bring them home to our new border garden ...of course I had just the place for them
I was attracted in to the shop to ask the price for a cute, very old girls bicycle that had baskets on each side of the back wheel and I have been looking for one for a long while ..I want to spray one pink and then hang flowers in the baskets ...and lean it against one of our trees ..just for decoration ...there was the perfect bicycle...apparently it had been sitting outside the shop for about 4 months along with another one without even an enquiry and there stood by my side was a very tall man whom had just purchased the both of them ...I could not believe it and the lady in the shop let him have them both for only $5.00 !!!.....I offered him $10 for the one I wanted ...but he said he collected them and had a barn full of them ...so he didn't want to sell it to me ...would he have missed just this one so much ?? never mind it wasn't meant to be
I wondered inside and couldn't believe how wonderful the shop was, full of treasures ...I could have spent thousands in there ...there were even old barn doors with the slide over wooden lever on them ...all handmade in the old way ...there is a dry sink I am still keeping in my mind, it would go great underneath that wonderful Edwardian mirror I bought a few weeks ago and such great prices ...I spent an hour and a half in there and had only seen a 1/3 rd of the items within ....
I spied these two old comical grumpy frogs and they are solid concrete ...I thought they would put a pop of color and whimsy in to the new garden border under the Bradford Pear tree ...One had a price of $10 and the sitting one was $6.50 ...so I asked her for her best price and got them both for just $6.50 !!!. ...the sitting one had a big nail pocking out of the bottom to place it in to a pot of soil so Danny put him in this old drift wood we acquired about 6 years ago on a visit to the Gulf of Mexico off of one of the beaches ...it is perfect isn't it ...He or she is just leaning there on the wood with it's hands over it's heart ..maybe it's given it's heart to the other frog ...
As I was coming out with my purchase the lady came after me and she said she would like to give me this creamer jug, pictured below ....just as a 'thank you' for coming in to the shop and buying something ...I was so pleased as I collect jugs ...I just love them and have many in my collection ...it turns out to be made in England and is made by Royal Doulton ...it has a navy blue band around it which has a gold line either side of the band ...it's so lovely and was free ...so what is not to love ...Two Concrete Frogs that seem to be in love and a Royal Doulton Creamer jug in 'brand new' condition all for $6.50 ..not a bad day was it !!!
Here you can see my new creamer jug on the top shelf in the kitchen nook on the far left ...it looks great with some of my other jug collection ..The Bread and Chip Cabinet also has a space for a microwave , but I have my bread maker there and then two cupboards below one named ' onions' the other named 'Taters' ...we bought it about 16 years ago ..it had been made out of old Barn wood floor boards ...
I am sure to be visiting this shop on many more occasions as there are such fascinating items and so many I would loved to have purchased
On my trip to the Thrift store this week I found this cute angel face jug ....I have a pot similar to this but it has three angel faces going all around it ...I love this one and will use it to put Hydrangea's in it etc ....such a lovely jug to display flowers in ..it is in 'as new' condition and was labeled 0.99c ..but had 80% off so I paid just 18c (10 pence in British Pounds)....Couldn't leave it there could I ??
This will be it's permanent place for now until I get some fresh flowers for it ..in our dining room on the old crate I also found in the thrift store a few months ago ..the chalk board behind has the menu for the sides on the buffet that we used for our Daughter's Wedding two years ago
Here is the back side of the Angel jug ...with her wings etc that extend to the front ...
I hope you have found yourselves a treasure you couldn't live without
Just an update on the Maisonvogue Raccoon Family ....
Daisy's three babies are rapidly growing and getting fattened up for the winter ahead
Daisy is a super Mom and she has bought us many babies over the years ...usually she has 4 in her brood but once she had five ...this year she had just three ....so we have named them the Three Musketeers Aramis and Porthos, and the aspiring musketeer, D'Artagnan.
They come every evening to be fed ...I usually feed them healthy cat food and then just now and again feed them some tasty left overs from our table
They all live in our woods ...very happily till it's time for them to leave and find their own territory to bring up their own family
Some stay for a few years and keep coming to be fed
We are very lucky to share part of their life with them ...we never let them get too close ..stomping our feet if they try to get too close
They are super cute
If you would like to see Video's of them feeding ...please join me at Maisonvogue to see the fun
Do you ever wake up and want a change ??...I Woke up this morning on a lovely Alabama morning ...crisper and cooler than we have had it since the Spring ...oh!! to breath in that non-humid air ...makes you feel alive and fresh and full of ideas for the future
I was able to fling open the windows to let the cool breeze waft in and play with my hair
No air conditioning ....just a few ceiling fans to keep the air moving around ..the promise of a lovely day
I decided to think of what room I could refresh in the home this autumn when the weather is much cooler and I can open the windows whilst painting ...and I decided that the Master bathroom is a bit tired in it's rich purple walls with pale stone roman pillars that I hand painted a long while ago ...so tired of the dark purple ..I need to brighten it up .....now I don't want it too bright but I am thinking Coral ...just a touch ..we have a turquoise and stone bedroom so the little pop of coral would be a lovely wake up call in the morning ..to make us smile
I love the pop of coral on the dove grey walls but I am thinking I don't want a dark color again so let's look at what else we can find
Don't you just want to jump straight in the pot ...but perhaps it's not bright enough for that pop of color I want to achieve
Some great color choices to go with the coral ...I am thinking the two lighter ones would be great ..then I look at the bedroom photo and see that a pale turquoise to compliment our bedroom with coral accents might be the way to go ..Do you have any ideas !! ...leave me a 'comment' please if you do ..
The counter (work) tops in the bathroom are white so this would work but I have antique bronze light fixtures and towel holders ...perhaps white walls are a bit boring ..though they are really fresh looking
There is that turquoise and coral again ..it really works doesn't it ...but not for me this time I am thinking
LOVE this ..but dark walls again ...no I am getting nearer to deciding what contrasting color I may use
Cute idea, I have all of these shaped mason jars ....and it does create that pop of color I am trying to achieve
I think I am nearer to choosing that paint ...I think I will go for a lovely bright coral for accents then the walls in oatmeal ....I may do one wall, the one that frames the large mirror, in coral too ....
Thanks for helping me try to choose ...It has helped and now I am going to go and enjoy the rest of this rare day in Alabama ....open windows. gentle breezes make today a very special day
I hope wherever you are the weather is being good to you
And that you feel inspired like I do, today ...
Happy Days to you
Merci ..to True Heroes ..Three American's and a British Business Man ..Show true Courage and get awarded France's top medal
I just had to pay honor to these true men of courage ...they saved countless lives ..with no thoughts for themselves ....it warmed my heart to hear this and I marvel at their courage ...these men are true heroes and I thank them for what they did
France said a big "merci" to three Americans and a Briton who overpowered a gunman on a high-speed train, giving the four men the country's highest honor in a ceremony at the presidential palace Monday.
Spencer Stone, 23, Alek Skarlatos, 22, and Anthony Sadler, 23, three friends on a European vacation, and British businessman Chris Norman, 62, were awarded the Legion d'Honneur by French President François Hollande at the Elysée Palace.
The three young Americans, who have been hailed as heroes around the world, looked slightly embarrassed as Hollande pinned the ribboned medals on their polo shirts before embracing them and kissing them on each cheek.
The trio wrestled an AK-47-toting gunman to the floor after he allegedly opened fire on a train from Amsterdam to Paris on Friday afternoon. The bare-chested assailant also had a Luger handgun and a box cutter, which he used to slash Stone's head and slice his hand, nearly severing his thumb. But Stone and Skarlatos, both stocky American servicemen, and Sadler were able to disarm the attacker and beat him unconscious.
The attacker has been identified as Ayoub El Khazzani, a 25-year-old Moroccan national who is reportedly on security watch lists in four European countries for his alleged links to radical Islamic group
Hollande described the attack as a work of "terrorism" and credited the men with averting a bloodbath.
"We are here to honor four men who, thanks to their bravery, managed to save lives. They showed what could be done in terrible circumstances," Hollande said. "In the name of France, I would like to thank you. The whole world admires your courage, your sangfroid, your responsibility.
"Your heroism should be an example to us all and a source of inspiration," the French leader said. "Faced with an evil -- and that's what it was -- called terrorism, there is a good, called humanity."
Hollande said the gunman had "enough arms and ammunition to provoke a real carnage" on the train.
And that's what he would have done if you hadn't taken every risk, including that to your own lives, and overpowered him," Hollande told the four men.
Three other train passengers -- a 28-year-old Frenchman who first confronted El Khazzani when he came out of a washroom brandishing his weapons, a 51-year-old French-American who was shot in the throat and is in the hospital, and an off-duty train driver who helped neutralize the gunman -- will also receive the Legion d’Honneur.
