Leap Day, on February 29, has been a day of traditions, folklore and superstitions ever since Leap Years were first introduced by Julius Caesar over 2000 years ago.
Women Propose to Their Men
According to an old Irish legend, or possibly history, St Brigid struck a deal with St Patrick to allow women to propose to men – and not just the other way around – every four years.
This is believed to have been introduced to balance the traditional roles of men and women in a similar way to how leap year balances the calendar.
Gloves Hide Naked Ring Finger
In some places, leap day has been known as “Bachelors’ Day” for the same reason. A man was expected to pay a penalty, such as a gown or money, if he refused a marriage proposal from a woman on Leap Day.
In many European countries, especially in the upper classes of society, tradition dictates that any man who refuses a woman's proposal on February 29 has to buy her 12 pairs of gloves. The intention is that the woman can wear the gloves to hide the embarrassment of not having an engagement ring. During the middle ages there were laws governing this tradition.

Just hopping in to see what you are up to this Saturday ...I have bought along a few friends to show you today ....That super clever creative artisans have made ....I am trying to get in to Easter mode as it's only a month away ..27th March, 2016 and I just love Easter ..
Isn't this rabbit just amazing ...most of these are available online ..this bunny was made by Gala Smaga
I LOVE Easter..first because of it's meaning ...then for the beautiful happy decorations ...I love to scatter bird nests around, some real collected after the babies have flown the nest and some artificial ..
This Rabbit seems to be called Jack ' Jack Rabbit' ..I have no idea where he came from but I do love him especially his little jacket and his beaded carrot
This rabbit looks like he needs cheering up with a great big hug ...he is exquisite every detail thought out ..his clothes are crazy good ...I love the colors, especially the stripy fabric used on the feet and ears ...all the textures ...just a treasure ...look at the pink on his nose ....He was made by Nadina as written on the photo ...a very talented lady
Here is a poem to cheer him up !!
Sometimes we’re lonely,
sometimes we’re down,
Our feelings are obvious,
they’re right in our frown.
We don’t want to talk,
or sit and explain,
Nobody would like it,
if they felt the same pain.
But just remember that you’re
intelligent and kind,
A rabbit like you,
is so hard to find.
Your beautiful smile,
is often the cure,
You can get through anything,
of that I am sure.
I’m right here for you,
I care for you dearly,
forever it’s true.
You will find lots of Rabbit Pillows in my Etsy.com shop ...'click' the button on top right hand of this page to go to my shop ..they are only $20.00 each ..all handmade with great care by myself using high quality fabrics ..each one is printed on the fabric by myself ..these are not transfers and I provide Free Gift wrapping with matching gift tags ..the gift wrapping is unique ....www.etsy.com/shop/Maisonvogue

Loving this one ...just such a lovely face ..and it's clothes are incredible ...great color palette..unknown which artisan created her and her little equally stunning dog

Have you been to a place that will stay forever in your heart ???? I have been lucky enough to have been to many places in the world but several of them just stayed in my heart and I long to visit them again ..Venice is one such place ...I have been there twice and would love to go and live there for a month or two before I depart this world ....This is Danny and I standing on the roof of the Basilica in St. Marks Square on a wonderful sunny hot day ...
If you ever go there don't stand in the huge lines out in the hot sun go online before you leave and get a
fast track pass ..it's free and will give you a time to enter the Basilica through another gate ...we were so pleased we did this
This is were we ate breakfast every morning ..if the weather wasn't good there is a breakfast room within the hotel but every day was perfect ....it was funny to see the UPS delivery passing by on the UPS boat instead of a truck
There was a little excitement on the Grand Canal as we stood on the Rialto Bridge ..a Police chase with siren's etc... just like out of a James Bond Movie
We found a fabric store in a tiny street and of course I had to go in ...I found this lovely floral embroidered fabric and this unusual trim and Danny chose this tapestry of the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge ..so I made a pillow/cushion with it when I came home and smile everytime I pass it ..creating memories
Our romantic Gondola ride
Yummy cake shops
Coming up the Grand Canal in a Water Bus ....it's the best way to get around if you have had enough of walking plus you get some breeze on a hot summer day ...they are everywhere and fairly cheap ...a visit to the Rialto bridge is a must ..it's fascinating but be prepared for crowds
Happy Days everyone
And Happy travels

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered,
It keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
Today I set out a romantic Valentine's breakfast for Danny and I ....in the lovely fresh morning sun

My cute little cherub I picked up at the thrift store a few years ago ..I love the little pink rose in it's hands
Cupid's been out shooting,

So should he call and offer you ,
That little heart of mine,
I hope that you will keep it ;
For my sake Sweet VALENTINE

The Romantic Fable: Once there was a wealthy Mandarin, who had a beautiful daughter (Koong-se). She had fallen in love with her father's humble accounting assistant (Chang), angering her father. (It was inappropriate for them to marry due to their difference in social class.) He dismissed the young man and built a high fence around his house to keep the lovers apart. The Mandarin was planning for his daughter to marry a powerful Duke. The Duke arrived by boat to claim his bride, bearing a box of jewels as a gift. The wedding was to take place on the day the blossom fell from the willow tree.
On the eve of the daughter's wedding to the Duke, the young accountant, disguised as a servant, slipped into the palace unnoticed. As the lovers escaped with the jewels, the alarm was raised. They ran over a bridge, chased by the Mandarin, whip in hand. They eventually escaped on the Duke's ship to the safety of a secluded island, where they lived happily for years. But one day, the Duke learned of their refuge. Hungry for revenge, he sent soldiers, who captured the lovers and put them to death. The gods, moved by their plight, transformed the lovers into a pair of doves (possibly a later addition to the tale, since the birds do not appear on the earliest willow pattern plates).
Even stunning Wedding cakes are made with the Willow pattern painted on ...isn't it lovely
Finally isn't this toaster just gorgeous ...it would make me smile in the morning just making toast on it
I hope you enjoyed my little trip around the history and fable's of the Willow Pattern and
I hope it will inspire you to go and look for some Willow Pattern of your own to enjoy
The red rose whispers of passion,
And the white rose breathes of love;
O, the red rose is a falcon,
And the white rose is a dove.
Being in the middle of Winter nothing much is going on at Maisonvogue ...the garden doesn't need tending though today I did spy early clumps of Snow Drops about 6" high ...a little earlier than usual as most of the country and other parts of the World are experiencing at the moment ..
I look forward to being able to pick their blooms and bring them inside to enjoy as well as leaving plenty on the plant to look cute in the garden .....
We have had such warm weather lately ..producing strong storms that even developed in to an F2 Tornado in the county West of ours ...Plenty of damage but no injuries ...I am glad to report
It has now turned cold and next week we are even expecting snow flurries in the early part of the week
Being that February is the month of Love ...I thought I would feature some Rosie Photo's to put you in the mood
I just love my little Rose Bud teacup and saucer
My Little Sheep I named 'Esme' which means 'Loved' in French ...I bought her in the Unique Island of Sark in the Channel Isles, Uk ...which is one of the Islands in the Bailiwick of Guernsey , the Island I was born and lived on for 43 years ..just off of the North West Coast of France
Esmé is made entirely out of Sark's sheep wool by a true Sark resident ...the lady was selling them at a tiny table by the Island's School when we went to the island as a special treat for my special birthday last Summer in July
Isn't she just adorable
My lovely Rose teacup is made by Royal Albert and is called 'American Rose'
I just adore roses on my china and collect any Vintage fabrics I can find with tiny rosebuds on them ...it's so romantic and I am a hopeless romantic ....very proud of it too ....what is life without romance !!
I said I fell in love with you once -
Well, that wasn't exactly true.
Because every time you look me in the eye,
And smile that smile of yours,
That bubbles up from within your heart,
I find myself falling in love with you all over again.
No matter what has happened in my day,
No matter how I feel,
I find my heart opening to you all over again
No matter what has happened in the past,
No matter what may, or may not happen in the future,
I find myself in love.
After all, what is life without love?
And what is love without you?
"LOVE" is a wonderful thing wether it be for a Husband, a Wife, a Lover, a Child, a Parent, a Sibling, a Friend, an animal , a flower, any object ....."LOVE" is everything ...."Love is patient, Love is kind, Love is understanding
Everything is coming up roses !!
I love to make little hearts from Vintage lace and of course sew these adorable little ribbon rose buds on them ...I mainly hang them from the door knobs of the bedrooms and the clothes closets ...I sometimes sell them in my Etsy.com shop as well ..for you to enjoy
Thanks for popping by
I hope that love is in the air for you too
See how many items you can pick up with roses and rosebuds on this month
At thrift stores, antique shops, fabric stores and clearance in any store
Do you have any collections you enjoy ...let us know in 'comments'
I am and I am sure my readers would love to hear about them
Happy days full of love
Hope you are all having a great day ....I have just popped in quickly to show off my new addition to my ever growing teacup collection
I always get excited when another 'Shelley' joins the group and this one is just perfect for the Spring time
Of course I LOVE the dainty scalloped shape to the teacup and it is such fine china so delicate and pretty with it's pale green handle
Do you see how pretty the saucer is ..it has a flower petal ridged design in it ...and the cup fits nice and snuggly in to the centre ...I hate it when a cup is ill fitting and wobble's around when you are carrying it
As you can see by it's marking's the design is called ' Wild Anemone' so pretty for a Spring or Summer's day
This Cup and Saucer was made somewhere between the 1920's and 40's
I think Miss Jane Austen and the Bronté Sister's would approve don't you ???
It's wonderful to drink from, so delicate and lady like ...you can feel your pinkie finger rising and can almost hear the Ladies and Gentlemen chitter chattering over afternoon tea
History of Shelley China:
In the 1860’s, the Wileman family were the owners of a large pottery known as the Foley Works located in Staffordshire, England. James B Shelley joined the Wilemans, became the head of the earthenware works and eventually ended up running the china works. In 1881 James then took his son Percy into partnership and after James’ death, Percy took over the china works.
Percy employed the best artists and developed a world renowned bone china along with the well known Dainty Scalloped shape. But in 1910, there was concern about using the name Foley, as Foley was actually a pottery region. By 1925, Percy had officially renamed his bone china Shelley. In the 1930’s Shelley also became well known for their Art Deco creations. They were even allowed to continue producing china throughout World War 2, unlike many other British potteries.
Thanks for popping by
Must rush as I have time to fit in just one more cup of tea
Before the afternoon has gone
I love anything artsy I especially love sewing and vintage prints and shabby chic ...pretty feminine things to adorn the home
