Thanks for popping by and looking at a few of my favorite things
Have a wonderful day
I have a passion for femine things ...I can't get enough ...I love the romanticism of an old piece of furniture that someone else used to own ..and I dream about who they were and did they also love the piece of furniture as much as I do
I love to have my porch filled with pretty things and cushions and pillows ..the only thing is you are always fighting the elements ...unless you get outside fabric most fabrics will mildew over time and when I am cutting the grass all of the pillows etc ..have to be put inside otherwise they get covered in the red dirt of Alabama with the dry summers we have it's a very dusty job ..cutting grass ...I also get some of the feral cats sleeping on them and have to wash them every week ...but I still do it as I love the way it looks
Mmmmm!!! one of my rare indulgences on a Saturday or Sunday lunch time a grilled cheese sandwich ..so yummy ...I like to finely dice onion and cook it a little with some fresh herbs such as oregano or thyme then I layer my sandwich with it and at least 3 kinds of cheese ..one being Blue cheese as I love it and another being White Canadian Cheddar ..then some Fontina if I have it ...I then put the sandwich in a cast iron skillet with has a little olive oil ..you can use butter if you wish ..and I let it cook till brown and delicious ..I turn it over and do the same ....whilst pressing on it with a spatula or cast-iron press to make the cheese melt and get all squishy ....then I serve it with a little salad of baby kale, spinach, cherry tomatoes, sliced strawberries, walnuts and crumbles of Blue Cheese ..just a few ..then gently sprinkle the best Balsamic Vinegar ever
One of my favorite items are the collection of Emma Bridgewater Mugs, cups, bowls, teapots, jugs etc...
Emma Bridgewater even does a selection of bedding in her Rose and Bee pattern that matches all of her mugs etc ....isn't it lovely ?
What a delicious bowl ..they are all hand painted so no two alike ..the bee can be just about anywhere
Precious...Yes it does say 'Self Raising' and not 'Self Rising' as it would in America ..Emma Bridgewater is British..I think it makes it even more charming
These Bird mugs are the first Emma Bridgewater Mugs I owned ...they have all British birds on them ..Love them
Thanks for popping by and looking at a few of my favorite things

I dream of being in an English garden
Where ladies sit and sip their tea
Perhaps beside the buttercups or under an old oak tree
Pretty hats and pretty dresses and laughter in the air
Smiles on faces, chitter chatter, and no one in despair
I'll keep those dreams in my mind and escape reality
It's where ones thoughts can go sometime and feel completely free.
Happy Day to you all
I am pleased to say that I have at last reopened my Etsy.com store .....
Because of my Surgery I have made some changes and will only be selling the items in my shops ..I can no longer take orders for pillows and I have introduced other items other than pillows such as Vintage porcelain and china items ...that I think are pretty and that you may love to have
Here are some of the items I have for sale at the moment
Each Pillow is designed by myself , printed on fabric by myself, handgun by myself all using high quality fabrics with high quality sewing ...I have had nearly 50 years of sewing experience ...each one made with love and care
These lovely Paris Laundry Maids are from old Paintings and have lots of detail in them as you can see
Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit and all of of his Friends are amongst my best sellers ...I love to use a good co ordinating fabric on the back of all of my pillows and on my Beatrix Potter ones I usually use this cute green gingham
Please 'click' on the ' Visit my Etsy Shop' button near the right hand top of the page and it will take you straight to my store
I look forward to seeing you there

Thanks for popping by
Hope you are all keeping well and warm ...Here in the centre of Alabama we had just a little snow ...nothing like the rest of the country but it was a great excuse to stay inside in the warm and have a lazy weekend
Some snow drops and some early Muscari blue flowers picked from the garden to brighten up a corner of the kitchen giving hope of Spring is soon to come
I decided to make some comfort food and made up a recipe of my own for what I am calling a '10 Minute Stew'
It had to be quick and easy but taste yummy with left overs for another lazy day on Sunday
I made this for two with left overs so just increase ingredients if you are making it for more
you will need
One large New York Strip Steak or any type of meat you would like perhaps lamb or chicken
I marinated my steak the night before in Italian dressing but that's not totally necessary ..
Two large carrots ..peeled and sliced (microwave for 4 minutes on high)
8 sliced portabella mushrooms or any mushroom (put aside)
Half a small packet of frozen Sweet English Peas and
Half a small packet of frozen Sweet Corn
(Microwave them together for 4 minutes on high)
One 15 oz Can of Diced Tomatoes or Fresh Tomatoes
6 medium potatoes ( I used red potatoes and didn't peel them)
Cut them in to small pieces
(microwave on high for 6 or 7 minutes till cooked)
1 jar of Turkey, Chicken or Beef Gravy
Egg Noodles or Rice or Mashed Potato
Whichever you fancy to serve the stew on
I used 'yolk free' whole wheat egg noodles
Cook as suggested my egg noodles took 11 minutes)
Season with Salt and freshly ground Peppercorns to taste
You are now just 10 minutes away from a lovely meal
Put all the ingredients except for the steak and noodles, rice or mashed potatoes in a large skillet, frying pan with a little olive oil
Cook for about 5 mins turning now and again add gravy and let it simmer for another 5 mins
I cooked my diced up New York Strip Steak in a separate skillet but you could cook them in with the rest of the ingredients if you like for the complete 10 minutes
Then put the noodles, rice or mashed potatoes in the individual serving bowls and spoon over the stew
It's that time of year again ....Spring Bulbs not at the moment in your garden but in your homes
Now if you didn't remember to plant some in wacky containers in September/October then you can go and buy some already growing in your local garden centers or Super Markets
I Love to plant mine in unusual containers and these great vintage flour dredgers (Sifters) that I get from thrift stores for pennies make great containers...they already have an open bottom so I put in another smaller bake bean can with holes in the bottom for easy watering ..fill with soil..plant the bulbs and then top with moss such as these miniture daffodils I planted ..I also put on a French street address and distressed it
I believe I not so long ago showed you the cute Pie Safe my Husband gave me for Christmas well I use it just like a doll's house and am going to have such fun changing it around with new teacups and seasonal decorations ..Now that I cleared out the Christmas trees etc I put in new items and added a Folk Art wooden heart on the top handle just for fun
I just love it and hope that it is a unique way in which to display and show off just some of my precious teacup collection
I put an old glass jam jar filled with water inside this old Flour dredger (sifter) to put in some of the tulips my Son's gave me for Christmas
One of my favourite flowers the Hyacinth that is coming up inside an angel container vase that I found at the thrift store and that I covered over the soil etc with green moss from the craft store
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
I was lucky enough to get to visit William Wordsworth's home in Cockermouth, UK with my Son one year it was such a lovely visit and of course I just love his poem above ...
Hope you enjoyed this post as much as I did creating it
Putting some Spring Bulbs in your home will give you the hope of Spring is not far away
When the wind is blowing and the snow is snowing and the long grey days seem to go on and on
Please share some of your container ideas with us through the ' comments' ...we would love to see and learn from your ideas
"Remember the Tea Kettle,
It's always up to it's neck
In hot water
Yet it still sings "
Hi ...How is your New Year going ...mine has been not too good as I have had the whole of these 17 days of the New Year with a very nasty bacteria infection but I am glad to say I am feeling just fine today ready to 'Cease the day and the Year' ...
So what better than to start to redecorate our home with some of my favorite pieces of Teacups and Crockery
It's a great way to enjoy your pretty dishes everyday rather than them being hidden inside a cabinet
This pretty 'Blue Butterfly' Lenox cup was one of my Christmas gifts from one of my Son's I just love it
It's very cold outside just above freezing with 19ºf for tonight but it's bright and sunny with blue skies so it reminds me that Spring won't be that long and the birds will be nesting ..my favorite time of the year
I love all my items around me but I don't like to be over cluttered I like to be organized so once I have finished taking photo's only the cake stand stacked with my favorite dishes will be on the centre of the table not the surrounding items
I love to find little artificial and real, discarded, nests to decorate, this one is faux that I found in a cute gift shop down by the Gulf of Mexico for just $2 ...it fits in most of my cups ..so sweet
The 'Winnie the Pooh' plate was bought on our Honeymoon nearly 17 years ago in Disney World , Florida, we got married on the beach at Port Canaveral
I came across this lovely Tree Frog Gravy Jug in a sale many years ago ..I just love it ...I believe it's a tree frog because of it's long tail ...and love it's little lily pad lid
Just some of my pillows that I hope to be able to start sewing again in the not too far future
January is Hot Tea Month ....so I thought I would show you some pretty teacups to celebrate it
I Love this Shelley Honeysuckle teacup so feminine and sweet
This super cute drawing with the two mice in teacups would make the sweetest gift tag ....I have no idea who created it and have tried to find out ....so whomever they are I give all the credit to them ...beautiful ...since I don't have permission for you to make them to sell please only print out for your own personal use not in quantities to sell
A typical English Tea Shoppe .....yummy Devonshire Cream Teas await you inside
Stacking beautiful teacups is just so satisfying
Thank you for checking in with me
I hope you are enjoying ' Hot Tea Month'
And keeping warm
Wherever you are
Have a fun weekend
Well that is 2015 all tied up and put away and now we are in to the New Year 2016 ..I wonder what adventures it has in store
I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year Holiday .....Ours was good, very quiet but we planned it that way for me to rest whilst still recovering ...and we watched some great movies mainly ones that were gifts ....we very rarely watch movies so it was a great treat
Since I was posting a wintery post I thought I would make a steaming hot cup of tea in my new teacup a gift from one of my Sons ...It's a Lenox ' Blue Butterfly' and I just love it ...I love the shape and the scalloping along the rim then the bee inside the cup is just darling ....the whole cup all the way around is highly decorated and the saucer has a Dragonfly on it and just where the cup sits a tiny red and black ladybug ....so sweet ...very nice to drink out of
We have had a few nights in the 20's lately so below freezing but then sunny days and up to 66ºf ..very strange weather ...this was the weather we got in February last year 2015 ....it was wonderful to see but caused an awful lot of trouble
An ice storm even caused these electric power lines to sag so much under the weight of the ice that it bought them down and caused State wide power cuts
I bake all of our bread and as you can see in the photo today's turned out looking very pretty
Yes this was Hwy 280 last year in February ....an awful mess ....not the best road to go on in the snow
Some of the Children were stranded at their schools and made the best of it as you can see ....My Danny had to stay at work and sleep in his office ...he laid on the floor with his jacket as his pillow and never really slept poor baby ...he eventually made it back home late the next afternoon
Lots of clearing up to do and insurance claims
Birmingham , Alabama in the snow
If you are having or will have snow this year don't forget to feed and water the birds every day
It's crazy how Alabama gets when there is some snow ....though I have to say it's like that in Guernsey too
I hope we will have some snow this year but I also hope that people are more prepared for it than they were last year
I am lucky and can just stay in my lovely warm home and blog , drink tea and look out the window at God's beautiful creation
I hope your first week of the New Year has been good to you
I have been sick all week 'hence' the lack of blogs but I believe I am getting better ..ready to embrace the year ahead
Have fun whatever you are doing
Happy New Year to you all ...Here are just a few quick photo's of our table set for New Year's Day Dinner
It's all a bit Shabby Chic ...influenced by the pink candles that I found at the Thrift Store a long while ago
Here are the last of our English Christmas Crackers waiting to be pulled to reveal the gift and joke inside
I used my Shabby Chic table cloth that I bought in France in 2015 from a lovely Market stall in Dinan
The final use of the Christmas decorations till the end of this year
Yes I used my rose bud plates again ....they are my favorite after all so a great way to start the New Year
We do eat very healthy throughout the year but of course splash out at Christmas time ...so we enjoyed some beef as we rarely have it ....We ate Medallion's of Tenderloin Beef with Portobella, Oyster and Shiitaki Mushrooms in a Marsala Wine Cream Sauce ...they were so yummy and cut like butter ....
Vegetables were French Beans lightly tossed in Olive oil and flash fried then sprinkled with the best Gruyere cheese we have ever tasted ...a Melody of small potatoes lightly roasted ..I love the purple ones best and a Melody of mushrooms and then I wilted some wonderful Watercress in the Marsala sauce ..tasted like heaven
All washed down with half a glass of French Cidre .....
And that is the end of the festivities for another year ..
We have had a lazy time and been watching movies new and old .We watched one that was made in 1951 before I was even born and have watched it several times before but still enjoyed it immensely .....ha! ha!
It was 'The Day the Earth stood still '
Hard to believe it was made 65 years ago
Danny is taking me out for a meal today
Then we will come home and cozy up and watch another movie
Danny had 'Ant Man' as a gift for Christmas so I am guessing that is what we will watch
A cold day here in Alabama today only 34ºf / 1ºc
What ever you are doing this weekend have a lovely time
Be Kind to each other
I love anything artsy I especially love sewing and vintage prints and shabby chic ...pretty feminine things to adorn the home
