I think it's fair to say that I am well and truly hooked in to this new craft.
It's very interesting ...quite complicated at times ...and I can see will have it's ups and downs.
But's it's fascinating and you end up with a one of a kind, your own creation.
You can't complain about that can you?
My teacher and friend Faith was creating it during our class.
I think it's amazing and hope that one day in the far off future I will be able to make this too.
But it is entirely my own design.
I was going to make this oblong dish with straight edges but then started to cut it in random waves and decided that I loved this shape.
The yellow sponge pieces are holding up the lip that I have just made ...they will remain in place till the clay starts to dry and get's stronger.
The drying process will take only about 3 hours till the sponges can be removed.
And of course I am in the early stages of learning ...so I am asking Faith which tools to use etc..for each part of this bowl ..
I do love it.
It's ready to get fired in the kiln ...maybe this weekend.
Faith has to wait till she has enough of our creations to fire up the Kiln.
I have some ideas of colors to paint it ...
Perhaps a copper, bronze background or a blue to suggest the sky and then of course the bees will be a yellow and black with shades of golden colors on the honeycomb.
Two of my other creations including the cheese and cracker platter I made a few weeks ago, should be fired too.
So a lot of glazing perhaps in my next lesson.
I will let you know how it turns out.
Here she is about to put on the second part of the roof and to make sure it doesn't sag whilst drying she filled it with news paper.
The news paper will stay there during the firing in the Kiln and will burn off and no longer be there ...
on the floor are two baby's feet ....Heather's Grandson ...so very, very darling.
And behind Heather her Daughter Amanda ...throwing a pot on the wheel.
It's a family affair.
I hope you enjoyed my 4th pottery lesson.
I can't wait to see what I am making in a years time.
It's great exercise for my injured arm.
It's a great lesson in patience as Pottery is not a fast craft.
As you can see I am hooked
Have a lovely time with whatever craft or hobby you enjoy doing.
Just a little foot note.
The Humming Birds arrived at Maisonvogue three days ago.
So if you live anywhere in the South.
Please get your Humming Bird feeders out.
They will be thirsty after their long migration flight.
I make my sugar solution myself
One part white sugar .. 1 Cup
4 parts boiling water.... 4 Cups
Stir the sugar in to the boiled water and wait for it to cool before pouring in to humming bird feeders.
Some people add a few drops of Red food coloring but it is not necessary.
We have lots of Humming Birds come each year.
